Summary of Duties:
Ohio State Alumni magazine is the university's flagship magazine. It publishes quarterly in print and more frequently online based on content and news demands. The publication shares the news, endeavors and achievements of alumni, students, researchers, faculty and staff with a diverse audience of alumni, friends and donors. A respected print and digital publication, it is primed to advance its storytelling and engagement capabilities, and a talented associate editor will be an important member of the team to make that happen. He or she will report to the Magazine Editor and work closely with senior writers and colleagues in University Marketing and The Ohio State University Alumni Association to create and manage high-quality content for the publication's print and digital editions.
The ideal candidate is an excellent storyteller, writer and editor; has strong editorial acumen; is highly skilled in communications and interpersonal relations; and is creative, well-organized and detail-oriented. He or she is a team player who regularly collaborates with writers, designers, photographers and video producers to craft compelling content for the print and digital magazines. The associate editor stays abreast of the magazine industry, alumni magazine readership trends and best practices and thrives in a continuous learning environment that consistently reaches for new opportunities and greater understanding of its audience members and the stories they find most compelling. He or she also will exhibit the behaviors associated with the Office of Advancement's core competencies: Leadership, Continuous Improvement, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Communication/Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field; five years of professional experience writing and/or editing for publications, preferably magazines; basic working knowledge of content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal, Wordpress, etc., and design software such as InDesign; two years of professional experience authoring/editing content for digital/online publications, such as blogs or websites.
Professional experience writing for audiences in a university setting; professional experience writing for search engine optimization.
Target Salary: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 Annually
