| Requisition Number: S_200539 Department: English-1083 Description of Work: Prairie Schooner is the international literary quarterly magazine edited and published at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with support from the university's English department and the University of Nebraska Press. This position coordinates the implementation of all tasks related to the production, marketing, business management, web presence, event planning, and distribution of the magazine. Duties include overseeing the review of 500-600 electronic and mailed-in submissions each month, as well as the copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, printing, and distribution processes of the magazine. Daily responsibilities include receiving and filling orders; corresponding with authors, subscribers, submitters, and donors; planning and monitoring multiple budgets; and supervising student workers and volunteers. This position is also responsible for the oversight of two major literary book prize contests, the Prairie Schooner Book Prize Series and the Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets. Other responsibilities include creating and disseminating promotional materials, booking advertisements, drafting and soliciting content for the magazine's website, and coordinating the production of four books and seven chapbooks each year for the development of the magazine's partner project, the African Poetry Book Fund. Minimum Required Qualifications: Master's degree in English or related field plus three (3) years of relevant publishing or literary experience required. Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills necessary. Demonstrated copyediting and proofreading skills essential. Must have knowledge of contemporary American literature and literary publishing. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office applications and web-editing and graphic editing software required.
