The Eviction Lab Audience and Community Engagement Editor will be tasked with maintaining local connections to writers and analysts that can help track the impact of the Lab’s work on local housing trends. This position will also help the Eviction Lab build out its network of reporters and researchers. The Editor will also partner with our Senior Narrative Change Liaison to hold media trainings, conduct press briefings, and organize events around the launch of major Eviction Lab projects. These efforts will ensure the research, data, and tools the Eviction Lab provides reach wide and diverse audiences, and that the stories behind the data are elevated in the national conversation.

The Eviction Lab recognizes the power that journalism has to influence attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. By rooting our social science research in stories and communities across the country, we seek to motivate changes to policy, practice, and culture in support of the right to housing and wellbeing. Our goal is to address the current housing crisis and its effects, as well as envision a future in which individuals and families across America have secure, quality, and safe housing, particularly amongst U.S. Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and other communities of color facing systemic dispossession from land and housing.

Through this two-year position, the Eviction Lab will deepen its work within communities most affected by the housing crisis by expanding the reach of the lab’s narrative change work.

Responsiblities include but are not limited to:

• Working with the Senior Narrative Change Liaison in responding to press and community requests to ensure housing organizers, community members, advocates, lawyers, researchers and other interested parties have the latest data to inform their work.
• Supporting Senior Narrative Change Liaison in proactively selecting a range of syndication partners for the Eviction Lab’s work to ensure we’re reaching a range of audiences by race, gender, geography, age, and other demographics.
• Working with Senior Narrative Change Liaison in organizing press briefings and trainings for local reporters and organizers to collect, use, and pitch housing research, data, and stories.
• Managing social media for the Eviction Lab.
• Maintaining the Eviction Lab press Inbox, responding and routing inquiries.
  Working with Eviction Lab team members to develop a newsletter strategy and voice and craft text.
• Working with the Senior Narrative Change Liaison prepare text for communication channels including evictionlab.org for research rollouts.
• Working with the Research Lab Coordinator in creating materials related to eviction and housing instability for teachers and other members of the public.
• Providing writing and editing expertise for Eviction Lab team publications.

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent and one or more years of experience is required.
• The successful candidate should also have writing writing or journalism experience (personally or professionally—the lab is open to both paid and unpaid work experiences) and desire to develop further as a writer; knowledge and experience with housing issues; a passion for anti-racist community engagement (either personally or professionally—the lab welcomes a variety of life experiences); experience managing a social media account; a desire to work with diverse groups of people and enjoy both individual and team writing and work.
• Fluency in Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, Korean, or another commonly spoken languages in the United States, are preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of research methods or statistics is a plus but not required.
