We are looking for an experienced editor with a passion for business journalism, a knack for creative storytelling, and an eye for detail to help bring new faculty research and insights to our readers around the world. Under general direction from the Editor-in-Chief, the Senior Editor will develop compelling content, write and edit feature stories, coach staff and freelance writers, conceptualize graphics, help manage the daily editorial pipeline and production, and coordinate special projects.

Harvard Business School's Working Knowledge publication distills the leading-edge research from the School's faculty into practical business insights. Executives, entrepreneurs, and academic researchers around the world turn to Working Knowledge for new thinking about management, leadership, and other pressing topics. With its headquarters inside Baker Library, the School's research nexus, the publication highlights emerging business ideas before they become mainstream practice.

In addition to our website and weekly newsletter, Working Knowledge promotes its content through social media and a variety of content-sharing partnerships. The website for Working Knowledge attracts an engaged online community of more than 3 million visitors annually.

Specific responsibilities include:

Works closely with the HBS Working Knowledge team to devise interesting story ideas that convey emerging faculty research and ideas for a sophisticated-yet-practical business audience.
Serves as a key partner in supporting and advancing the content and distribution strategy set forth by the Editor-in-Chief.
Assigns and edits content created by staff and freelance writers, coaching them to meet Working Knowledge's high standards for clarity and accuracy and as well as accurately reflecting the publication's editorial voice.
Actively contributes to Working Knowledge as a writer, adding to the flow of original feature stories under the general direction of the Editor-in-Chief.
Proactively keeps up with emerging research at HBS, including upcoming books and other publications by faculty authors.
Manages production process, liaising with copy editors and production support.
Leads the Books@Baker author seminar series and related content, with administrative support from Knowledge and Library Services.
Other appropriate duties as assigned.

This position is approved for a 2-year term (with possibility of renewal/extension) which begins on the person's first day of employment. This 2-year term limit does not apply to current Harvard employees.

During the current period of COVID-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position with the transition to onsite at HBS campus in Boston, MA when the office reopens.

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, or Business required.
Minimum 7 years' experience writing and editing for news or other digital publications required.
Strong understanding of business journalism and finance.

Experience providing oversight to writers, copyeditors, and producers. Ability to provide constructive feedback to improve the quality of writing.
Strong knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style.
Experience in an academic setting and with navigating both quantitative and qualitative research on a wide variety of topics.
Perpetual sense of curiosity and deep interest towards their work, media trends and business insights.
Ability to take complex and abstract business terms and ideas and translate them for a broader business audience.
Ability to perform under pressure and manage several projects simultaneously.
Ability to work under tight deadlines
