Founded in 1892, Stanford University Press publishes 120+ books a year across the humanities, social sciences, law, and business. Our books inform scholarly debate, generate global and cross-cultural discussion, and bring timely, peer-reviewed scholarship to the wider reading public.
Edit and coordinate production of a variety of types of printed material. Provide support for electronic editing and composition by converting, cleaning up, updating, and archiving electronic files provided by authors. Serve as liaison between author and editing, design and production staff on projects.
Oversee the editing and production from manuscript to book.
Supervise the work of freelance copy editors and proofreaders, and prepare manuscripts for design.
Oversee the maintenance of the production schedule. Inspect jacket copy, jacket mechanicals, and bluelines, and collaborate with design staff and marketing personnel.
Assist in training new production staff. Manage more involved and technically challenging books.
Handle complex authors and materials.
Serve as liaison to editors, authors, designers, production, and manufacturing.
Make important editorial decisions, as needed.
Adhere to an established budget, and explain variances.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced experience managing print projects, possessing a strong knowledge of traditional and digital printing.
Thorough knowledge and hands-on experience with all phases of book production, including in-depth knowledge of desktop publishing and the basic rudiments of art and design.
Experience in implementing document design templates.
Demonstrated proficiency in FTP, file conversion, and printing processes.
Experience working on a project team.
Ability to effectively manage work flow with multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to interface with internal departments and external book publication/production community.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >50 pounds. Good visual acuity including color vision.
Ability to work in a dusty, dirty and odorous environment.
