The Newsletter Editor is one of the public voices of WBUR's flagship newsletters, which currently includes our morning newsletter, WBUR Today. The mission is to keep WBURs editorial newsletter portfolio thriving day to day. The main responsibilities for this position center on writing and editing. This person should have the ability to write in many different styles, think creatively with an audience-first mindset, and be meticulous with attention to detail.
WBUR’s newsletters have seen substantial transformation over the last three years, including audience growth and a major jump in audience engagement. Our newsletter team is award-winning and email is a big part of WBUR’s audience development strategy for the future. We are looking to hire someone who can help us grow and evolve our editorial ambitions.
The editing and writing of WBUR editorial newsletters. Currently, this includes being the public voice of WBUR's flagship newsletter, WBUR Today. Part of this will include innovating new sections and original reporting to be included in WBUR Today and the Weekender. There will also be an opportunity to write and edit new newsletter products. The other main responsibility is editing existing weekly topical newsletters and working with the corresponding newsroom teams. Editing includes checking for newsletter tone, style and click optimization. Editing responsibilities may also extend to special projects and pop-up newsletter courses.
Writing and continued editing of welcome series, re-engagement articles to make sure they are up to date. Some building and editing of email templates, as needed.
Develop, interpret and maintain analytics reports to monitor overall performance against goals for all WBUR newsletter products.
Write and schedule social media promotions to solicit newsletter subscriptions.
Build and edit email newsletters as digital posts.
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required. At least three years of related work experience required.
Experience with MailChimp and WordPress preferred. Photoshop is a plus.
Strong interest in and passion for editorial newsletters, as well as digital/social/web products.
Strong news judgment and commitment to accuracy.
Fluent in AP Style, and extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with a variety of editorial teams across the newsroom.
