Posting Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Acquisitions Editor for Rutgers University Press. Under the supervision of the Editorial Director, the position acquires and evaluates manuscripts and book proposals in the fields of Higher Education and Human Rights.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Manages content strategically toward signing 25 titles per year, turning over to the production department between 20-25 titles per year.
Handles pre-contract work, including in-house evaluations, peer review, and presentation of books to the editorial committee of the Press.
Responsible for financial calculations involving contracted works
Performs content evaluations to ensure quality control, alignment with list plans, sales targets, and fit for the Press/audience.
Coordinates with authors and series editors to develop projects in line with Press goals and list plans.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience, preferably in an academic field related to the area of acquisitions for which the editor is responsible.
A minimum of two years of acquisitions experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong office experience, highly effective writing and oral skills, strong organizational talents, attention to detail, the ability to look at systems with an eye toward improving them, and the ability to work well with a student assistant and across departments at the Press.
