CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Speech Writer and News Writer writes a variety of executive-level communications on behalf of senior leadership. These communications include speeches and public remarks, event introductions, campus-wide letters and announcements, and other high-level correspondence. The Speech Writer and News Writer also writes news articles and profiles for the Graduate Center???s news feed and publications. The incumbent reports to the Director of Communications and is an integral member of the Graduate Center???s Communications and Marketing team, which is committed to positioning the Graduate Center as a premier institution of graduate education. This position is for 10-20 hours per week, with a maximum of 225 hours for the fall semester, 225 hours for the spring semester, and 175 hours for the summer semester.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Write engaging, timely, and well-researched speeches and remarks for high-profile events including commencement, convocation, and board meetings.
Write introductory remarks for events, such as lectures, panel discussions, and performances.
Develop regular campus-wide messages that address important issues and convey the plans, vision, and voice of senior leadership.
Write well-researched and timely op-eds and opinion pieces in partnership with senior leaders.
Write and edit other materials and correspondence on behalf of senior leaders.
Report on and write a variety of news and feature stories about Graduate Center faculty, students, and alumni, covering news about their research and scholarly and professional achievements for the Graduate Center???s news feed and blogs.
Exercise the utmost professionalism in communicating with senior leadership, faculty, students, alumni, staff, government officials, and partners.
Handle sensitive topics and work matters with confidentiality and discretion.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree required.
