This professional edits text, ensures accuracy and is a critical part of our digital and print storytelling efforts. Responsibilities include the following:
Copy edit news stories, press releases, magazine articles, alumni updates, video text and more for grammar, readability, style and punctuation.
Check facts in text, adjust voice according to audience and purpose, and make suggestions to the style guide.
Post content on our websites.
Contribute story ideas.
Respond helpfully to readersâ questions.
Write and compile copy and handle other editorial duties as needed.
The ideal candidate has professional experience as a copy editor working for a digital content publisher where youâve shown that you can help a team produce effective, accurate and compelling digital-first stories every day, on deadline. You can work well within systems, but you also show initiative. You understand what makes writing interesting and compelling. Lively, direct, high-quality writing matters to you. So does getting facts right.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Two years of experience writing/editing in a paid capacity for a digital publisher
Mastery of grammar and Associated Press Style and experience with news and social media writing styles
Proficiency with WordPress, Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, HTML coding, email newsletter platforms and cloud-based project management tools, and ability to master new technology quickly.
A bachelor's degree from a four-year college is a must. A degree in English or journalism, while helpful, isnât mandatory.
Familiarity with university or academic environment is a plus.
Position is full-time, onsite in Los Angeles.
