Under the direction of the Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education Program (SAREP) Director and in collaboration with SAREP staff, coordinate, plan, and implement SAREP’s communications strategy for outreach, stakeholder engagement, and media/public relations. Revise and maintain SAREP’s websites and outreach materials. Develop a wide range of materials in various media and promote media awareness of SAREP and its major initiatives and projects. Interact with stakeholders through listening and responding to key audiences. Support efforts to integrate a diversity, equity, and inclusion focus into SAREP’s programmatic work and communications. Track grant funding announcements for SAREP and notify SAREP programmatic staff. Assist in developing grant proposals to a wide range of funding agencies and organizations including, but not limited to, sponsored research grants and fundraising philanthropic proposals. Prepare contract and grant proposals for submission to ANR’s Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG). Provide writing and technical editing support for all documents, including rewriting and reorganizing technical content to minimize repetitive or ambiguous text, and editing difficult and technically advanced material for logic, organization, rational flow of content, and emphasis. Design, create, edit, or reformat graphics for inclusion in various documents. Manage the submission process of SAREP grant proposals to OCG. Track proposal submissions and data of successfully awarded proposals. Along with SAREP leadership, coordinate SAREP's small grants program. Job posting will close on 12/05/2021. Experience developing and managing the implementation of a communications strategy, including analyzing audience communication preferences and linking communications strategies to programmatic priorities.
Experience researching and analyzing complex information and/or problems to anticipate the information needs of key stakeholders.
Experience writing outreach materials in plain language and editing and proofreading to ensure correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Experience using journalistic forms, styles, standards, and techniques to compellingly communicate information
Interpersonal public relations and communications skills to interact with diverse groups of individuals and work collaboratively on teams.
Organizational, time management, and project management skills to coordinate projects and people, prioritize and track multiple projects simultaneously, and meet critical deadlines.
Experience developing outreach for diverse audiences.
Experience planning and developing website content. Proficiency with social media tools.
Experience responding to media and public inquiries.
Familiarity with traditional and alternative media forms, with an understanding of stories that appear to the media and how to promote those stories to the press.
Experience with graphic and web design.
Experience with podcasts, radio, and other dynamic communication methods/platforms. Ability to utilize mac computer platforms and trouble-shoot basic technology issues.
Knowledge of sustainable agriculture and food systems; familiarity with university extension programs.
Experience assessing informational needs of farmers and ranchers, extension professionals, and the policy community.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
Proficiency in verbal and written Spanish, Hmong, or other language spoken by California’s socially disadvantaged farming communities.
Experience writing and submitting grant proposals, including development of budgets and justifications for university-based projects and grant proposals.
