225 Magazine, Baton Rouge’s top lifestyle publication, is seeking a rising-star journalist to take on a brand-new Digital Staff Writer role. We are looking for a talented storyteller who is always snapping iPhone photos and recording videos, and who has a keen eye for the best mediums to tell a story digitally.
The ideal Digital Staff Writer loves to stay in touch with all the things that make Baton Rouge great, exploring restaurants, shopping local at boutiques and makers markets, discovering new art exhibits and listening to live music. They’re eager to get out in the field and record all of this for 225’s social media and e-newsletter. They’re as comfortable working in the office as they are out in the community, regularly attending some of the city’s best events and conducting face-to-face interviews with local movers, shakers and innovators.
The Digital Staff Writer is a go-getter who is passionate about editorial storytelling and is always flipping through digital magazines, scrolling TikTok, and looking for the next great trend. They have a strong voice, thrive on writing captions, and love editing photos and graphics to make them pop. They’re a self-starter, motivated to set goals for themselves and for the magazine.
We’re looking for someone with a journalism background, who understands 225’s editorial standards but also wants to have fun on the job—and ensure readers are having fun, too.

What you’ll do
Narrate, write and create original content for our social media and e-newsletter, with an emphasis on original videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels and Instagram Stories.
Step out on the town to attend restaurant and business openings, community events and 225 photo and recipe shoots. Visit with and interview local chefs, entrepreneurs and community celebrities to tell great stories.

Become the expert on digital and social media trends, experimenting and playing with up-and-coming new platforms, features and apps.
Who you are
A college grad with a degree in journalism, communications or related field. Knowledge of AP Style and journalism ethics preferred.
1-3 years of experience in journalism and/or social media
A Baton Rouge resident ready to explore the community capturing content. This is a hybrid remote and in-person position that will work both in and outside the office.
Familiarity with content and graphic creation tools like Canva, Temply, Biteable, etc. Fast learner who is eager to build a visual style and aesthetic that matches with the 225 editorial brand and tone.
