The School of Communication and Journalism seeks an adjunct instructor to teach in the School's core in-person, hands-on, lower-division undergraduate digital journalism skills courses. Preferred candidates should have a background in digital journalism, and teaching experience at the college level. The instructor will ensure the delivery of a high quality educational experience to students in introductory and intermediate digital journalism classes, which help them build core competencies so that they can succeed in upper division coursework, including: fundamentals of digital journalistic reporting and storytelling; collecting data and information; using text, audio, video, data visualization, and mapping to build effective stories; deploying social media tools for information gathering and story amplification; and understanding the core principles of impartiality, ethical values, and respect for accuracy.
This is a non-tenure track position to begin in the Spring 2022 semester (January 24, 2022).
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or higher in journalism, communication, or a related field. Minimum of one year of experience in teaching journalism skills courses at the college level. Experience working in digital media.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's or doctoral degree in journalism, communication, or a related field. At least three years of professional digital journalism experience. More than one year of college level teaching of digital reporting and editing. Experience working with diverse student populations.
