The Finance Division of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) provides financial management, enterprise planning and stewardship in support of the education, research, and strategic goals of the university. The Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer and division leadership team oversee Budget and Financial Planning, Business Applications Development and Support, the Controller's Office, Procurement Services and the Treasurer's Office. Within those units lie critical business functions including, but not limited to payroll, financial reporting, accounts receivable and payable, sponsored projects accounting, international operations, procurement, and financial systems.
The Finance Division is searching for a Senior Writer/Editor to join its Communications and Training team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an exciting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by writing and managing complex, high level, executive and/or strategic communications from inception to completion for a variety of internal and external audiences in alignment with the vision and mission of the Finance Division and Carnegie Mellon University. You will work closely with subject matter experts, contributors and reviewers throughout all stages and maintain editorial authority regarding content and format.
This position requires a detail-oriented, organized and efficient individual who possesses strong writing, design, editing, proofreading and professional printing/publishing skills. This individual has the ability to clearly articulate complex information and ensure written materials are timely, relevant, audience specific/focused, visually appealing, reflective of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging values, and factually and technically accurate.
Reporting to the Director of Finance Communications and Training, this position will collaborate with the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Finance Division leadership and the University Communications and Marketing division.
Core responsibilities include a focus on creating, editing and distributing internal and external communication materials and other related communication duties, including but not limited to:
- Executive presentations and speaking engagements
- Internal and external email communications
- Board of Trustees materials
- Annual Financial Report
- Strategic projects and initiatives communications
You must demonstrate:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills

Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree, preferred area of study in communications, journalism, or related field.
- At least five years communications experience, including executive level communications, technical writing and the use of online authoring tools.
- Exceptional skills for writing and editing.
- Experience writing about and managing finance-related material is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Understanding of best practices and metrics for communications.
