KNIGHT SCIENCE JOURNALISM EVENT AND PROGRAM COORDINATOR , Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) , to fulfill an essential educational need for a program dedicated to improving science journalism . Will oversee some of the programs' already established training programs, such as its long-time seminar series for KSJ fellows, training workshops, and specialized outreach projects in fact-checking and science editing; oversee the Victor K. McElheny Award in Science Journalism, KSJ's award for local and regional science Journalism, and for developing a related educational program focused on the yearly winner; expand the program's educational outreach; and design and develop a new series of programs and other resources for fellows, working science journalists, and other audiences with both a national and international focus.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree, preferably in a communications field; at least two years' experience in events planning or project/program management required; experience in journalism; high-level organizational skills; ability to work with a range of people--from journalists to academics--and put together compelling educational programs; ability to effectively organize training events, research and select the appropriate speakers, determine the appropriate instructors, and design teaching modules including support documents and other resources for trainees; and experience with instructional technology, including audiovisual and computer equipment and online/webinar formats and tools such as Zoom. PREFERRED : experience in science journalism, knowledge of instructional design and learning theory and principles, experience as an instructor or trainer, and knowledge of Word Press. Job #20957-6
This position will require some travel, if training events are held elsewhere, and may involve some weekend work if workshops run on Saturdays and Sundays.
This is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of reappointment for continued work.
