Overview
The Scholarship and Mentor Program Officer will manage all phases of the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute’s (the Institute) graduate scholarship program, with primary focus on identifying applicants from underrepresented populations, and developing systems to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of the scholarship program. The Scholarship and Mentor Program Officer will also develop and manage a mentorship program for graduate students at the Institute, with the goal of connecting graduate students with the Institute’s alumni in the field and establishing new partnerships to expand the Institute’s field of mentors and adjuncts. Particular emphasis will be placed on ensuring underrepresented students and mentors are connected. Additional responsibilities around metrics and reporting will also be a critical component of the Scholarship and Mentor Program Officer’s overall duties.
Responsibilities
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in higher education, marketing and communications, public policy, or related fields.
Required Experience:
3+ years relevant experience in student services, outreach, and/or mentor programs. Experience working with and developing programs for underrepresented students.
Preferred Experience:
Professional writing or journalism experience. Experience managing alumni engagement, scholarship, mentor, and/or grant programs.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to promote journalism and engage prospective students, alumni and donors. Outstanding interpersonal and public speaking skills; strong analytical skills. Excellent writing and editing skills, with imagination and an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of best practices for DEI programming and alumni engagement. Grant writing and reporting skills. Results oriented.
