Position Summary:
St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a part-time Communications Assistant/Magazine Editor (“Editor”) for the School’s community-wide publication, STC Magazine.
Serving approximately 980 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s School is committed to cultivating a school community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming and prides itself on bringing out the best in every boy. Published two times a year, the Editor serves as the chief architect for this highly-visible publication. The Editor manages the tone, voice, look and feel of STC Magazine. The Editor is expected to have a deep knowledge of St. Christopher’s and a solid understanding of the overarching narrative being told by the School. Responsibilities include developing content themes and story ideas to advance the School’s narrative in collaboration with the Director of Communications and the rest of the Communications team.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Editor and chief architect of all aspects of STC Magazine, including:
- Responsible for overseeing and executing scheduling and production and the work of other writers, designers and photographers
- Identify and write timely stories of interest, covering School life, faculty and staff news, and Alumni spotlights
- Edit all copy; ensure accuracy of information in the magazine
- Work closely with other members of the Communications team to ensure cohesive messaging and branding
- Work closely with the Development team to incorporate the Annual Report into the fall issue of STC Magazine
- Ensure the School’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging is well-represented and articulated
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience on a magazine, e-magazine or e-newsletter, or with a marketing firm.
- A clear commitment to diversity, community and inclusion in school communities, as expressed in the St. Christopher's Diversity and Inclusion Statement.
- Experience as a writer, communication specialist or similar position
- Experience conducting interviews and writing in a range of styles; must have strong writing and editing skills
- Strong knowledge of Associated Press style
- Expert grammar, editing and proofreading skills
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Demonstrated project management skills; proficient in using Adobe writer
- Must have acute attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
