Overview The University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) advances the University’s mission of teaching, research, and outreach to the community by raising and managing private dollars for scholarships, world-class faculty, leading-edge research, new facilities, and academic programs, as well as the M Health Fairview partnership. UMF’s Marketing and Communications team is seeking an editor/writer to advance UMF and its affiliates by supporting the production of high-quality publications, web content, event collateral, and other marketing and communications materials aimed at raising money for and elevating the profile of the University’s colleges, units, and programs.
Responsibilities Editorial (50%)
Partner with marketing leadership to establish editorial objectives and guidelines that support strategic development priorities
Write and edit compelling, high-quality articles for UMF publications, website, marketing initiatives, and special projects
Collaborate with UMF editors and designers on visual asset sourcing, planning and scheduling photo shoots, scouting locations, etc.
Proofread and fact-check publications and other marketing materials for grammar, punctuation, accuracy, etc.
Prepare and post web content via a content management system (Web Edition and/or Drupal)
Work with communications colleagues across the University to partner on content sharing to gain broader exposure for stories
Event-related communications (30%)
Serve as communications liaison and partner for development-related events
Write and edit collateral, e.g., invitations, programs, signage, and related messaging in digital and print formats, that supports individual events as well as broader development goals
Assist with talking points and/or scripting for events
Other duties (20%)
Write and edit copy for a variety of marketing and communications materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, banners, displays, brochures, and information sheets
Help to track, document, and organize stories naming donors via UMF’s internal donor management system
Serve as primary contact with advertising representatives and coordinate placement of UMF ads

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field and 2 years of professional writing and/or editing experience; or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 6 years
Project management experience
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent writing, editing, grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
Ability to think creatively
At least three years of professional writing and/or editing experience
Experience writing for a variety of media, including print, web, and presentations
Experience using a content management system
Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop
