The Communications Office at Johnson University invites applications for the position of Graphic Designer/Video Editor. JOB SUMMARY
As the title describes, this position works on both digital/print design projects (brochures, logos, posters, infographics, advertisements) as well as short-form video projects such as faculty and student stories, campus tours, and promotional videos. This new position for the University will work collaboratively with both the Lead Graphic Designer and Lead Video Producer and with JU faculty, staff, and administration to develop creative, innovative marketing pieces that communicate the benefits of a Johnson education. Individual must have demonstrated ability to organize their work, take initiative, and work with others. In this role, you can’t care enough about creativity or details, because both are required for great work!
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and Production
- With Chief Communications Officer and Lead Graphic Designer, develop concepts for major campaigns and collateral pieces including the Johnson University magazine, brochures, displays, banners, logos, viewbooks, postcards, ads, programs, and digital graphics.
- Create and design camera-ready art or electronic files, managing the quality of design throughout all project phases.
- Work collaboratively with the Printshop Coordinator in designing files for print.
- Ensure quality control of print projects.
- Ensure consistency with Johnson’s branding and identity standards.
- Video
- Develop creative and engaging promotional, short-form video to promote the Johnson University brand through social media and the website for recruitment, fundraising, alumni engagement, and other projects as assigned.
- Maintain videography equipment and provide guidance for new equipment purchases.
- Assist with maintenance/improvements to JU YouTube account.
- Assist with captioning new videos as needed.
- With Lead Video Producer, travel to Johnson University Florida campus twice a year to capture video for JUFL-specific videos.
- Create motion graphics and digital typography.
- Suggest ideas for new video projects to meet University goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work inside at computer; sit for long periods of time
- Ability to lift/transport video equipment and set up for video shoots
- Some evening and weekend work hours required as needed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- A Christian faith and support for Johnson University’s mission and values.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1-2 years of design and video experience.
- Demonstrated skills in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, the Adobe Creative Suite and Premiere Pro. Proficiency in CG applications like After Effects preferred. Experience with Sony camera products.
- Experience with graphic design and production principles and processes; experience in camera operation, location and set management, audio, and lighting.
- Ability to stay organized while managing multiple projects, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
- Proven experience in interpreting project goals and translating them into media.
- Good communication and personal relationship skills, including problem-solving and decision-making ability.
