The Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) at Columbia University is seeking a Production Editor to join a rapidly growing and dedicated team publishing research on the biggest energy questions of our times. The Production Editor will be responsible for putting the final shine on all CGEP???s research products???from academic research papers to event summaries???by managing the copy editing and design process.
The Production Editor will be responsible for the copy editing of CGEP???s work, either by editing papers directly or working with external copy editors, to make sure all text is finalized to our standards. The editor will identify and manage external graphic designers to make text and graphics match our style guidelines and ensure the final product looks sharp for our audience of energy policymakers and thought leaders. The editor may at times be asked to do light work flowing text into templates in InDesign and WordPress, and may edit text for other CGEP teams as needed.
Attention to detail is critical, as is ability to prioritize under competing deadlines. The successful candidate will have experience copy editing and working under a variety of deadlines and with authors from different backgrounds and in different locations.
A particular focus for the organization is the impact of issues of racism, environmental justice, gender equality, and inclusion in our energy system. Ensure that research products meet CGEP quality standards and project specifications.
Review manuscripts before printing or releasing to ensure they meet CGEP style requirements.
Perform copy editing duties and manage offsite copy editing.
Edit graphics for research products in Excel.
Work with editors, designers, and authors in anticipating and resolving problems.
Work with graphic designers to ensure research products meet CGEP standards.
Conduct final review of all research products.
Bachelor's degree and 4-6 years of significant prior relevant work experience, including experience as a Production Editor, including copy editing and managing graphic designers, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent written communications and proofreading skills; strong knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and familiarity with Chicago style.
Ability to manage multiple projects on different deadlines.
Experience working with copy editors and graphic designers and developing workflows and schedules to meet deadlines.
Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the vision and mission of the organization.
Additional years of relevant professional experience in an academic setting.
Experience with InDesign, WordPress.
