The Video Editor is a member of the VPAL Production team, reporting to the Post-Production Manager. The Video Editor works with Harvard faculty, VPAL Instructional Development team members, and the VPAL Production team to help plan, conceptualize, develop, create, and archive high-quality video segments and other visual media assets (ie., slideshows, animations, still images, tablet capture, etc.) in support of online learning.
The successful Video Editor combines an academic sensibility, an understanding of creative/media approaches to learning, and the ability to collaborate effectively with instructional designers and other team members across academic disciplines and units. The video editor demonstrates a deep appreciation for academic content and for the experience of the faculty and global learners who will engage with VPAL courses and modules. The Video Editor is a collaborative, creative problem solver who provides constructive options and team approaches to resolve conflicts, works within operating constraints, and identifies priorities for post-production in order to successfully complete assignments and provide effective management of VPAL media assets.
Please note: this is a two-year term appointment starting from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal.
Creates high-quality media assets for assigned instructional projects
Works in collaboration with and under the guidance of the leads of assigned project(s) to ensure the creation and delivery of innovative audio/video solutions that are on time, within budgetary constraints, and appropriate for the particular learning context
Works with the marketing team to deliver targeted media assets for VPAL course social media and e-mail marketing, including trailers, cutdowns, and clips
Meets deadlines consistently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
Understands and applies established production workflows and practices for planning, set up, creation, post-production, finishing, and archiving VPAL media assets
Executes audio mixing, motion graphics, compression of video footage, and post-production (editing, animations, and static graphics)
Advises Post-Production Supervisor and the Production Manager as requested on post-production priorities and workflows
Other duties as assigned

Minimum of three years of editing experience with Final Cut Pro or equivalent non-linear video editing software
Experience with color correction and audio mixing
Experience with image editing and motion graphics software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Apple Motion
Experience working on Mac-based operating systems
Experience posting on video sharing and review platforms, such as Vimeo or Frame.io
Prior successful work experience in educational media, education publishing, academic technology, or teaching and learning support is a plus, but not required
Aptitude for learning and applying new technologies quickly and effectively
Self-motivated with the ability to work consistently and constructively in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Ability to work quickly and efficiently to meet deadlines
Knowledge of file management and naming procedures
Able to maintain focus and work unsupervised
