Job Description Who We Are & What We Can Offer You:
WBUR is Boston's NPR and a public media leader, producing exceptional journalism on-air, online, on demand and in real life. Our mission is to provide high-quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community for an expanding circle of people. WBUR is a member-supported nonprofit and provides its journalism to the public for free, with no paywall or subscription. Our broadcast license is held by Boston University.
Employees at WBUR are a team of professionals who value truth, diverse perspectives and candid debate, creating a culture of mutual respect, passion, and belonging.
We've got exciting plans to keep innovating and building WBUR for the future.
We're growing. And you'll grow too.
Onsite: This will be primarily onsite with potential for some remote flexibility.
Both roles are covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The minimum salary of Associate Producer is $67,958 and Producer is $78,413. Both can go up based on experience and internal equity.
The Opportunity and Who You'll Work With:
Radio Boston is the local midday show that dares, sparkles, provokes, unites, and inspires. The show strives to serve the rich diversity of Greater Boston, to deepen trust and engagement with our community, and to initiate conversations that bring those most affected to the fore. It clears space at the table for people with fresh thinking, sharp minds, and stories that have yet to be told. If this sounds exciting, we want to hear from you.
Your role as Associate Producer or Producer will be an integral part of the Radio Boston team, working both independently and collaboratively with other Radio Boston staff members and WBUR journalists. Working under the supervision of the Executive Producer, you will be responsible for generating original segment ideas, researching, guesting, scripting, fact checking, and pre and post production. You will also be responsible for other show elements outside of the show broadcast, such as audience engagement and the show's identity on digital platforms.
Required Skills What Youll Need to Succeed:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent/relevant experience
Associate Producer: 3-5 years or Producer: 5-8 years of related experience in media, journalism, broadcasting, audio production
Capabilities and Proficiencies:
An excitement about WBURs mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality local journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community.
A commitment to journalism fundamentals, including accuracy, fairness, respect, honesty and independence on air and online (for more, see WBURs ethics guidelines).
Understanding of established and emerging social media platforms.
Understanding and/or experience finding innovative ways to connect with communities and audiences.
Understanding and experience with video and audio equipment and editing software.
Experience with newsroom content management systems is a plus.
Additional Capabilities and Proficiencies for Producers:
Experience with solving problems independently, and knowing when to escalate issues to team leaders/senior colleagues.
Experience executing complex editorial projects.
Dynamic storytelling understanding and ability.
Understanding and keen ability to articulate the big idea or driving question in a story, as well as the implications, tension, and potential upsides or pitfalls associated with the issue(s).
In an ongoing effort to enrich our organizational culture, WBUR is committed to building a staff and leadership team that reflects the diversity of our city, region and nation.
Designing an organization where everyone thrives, creating connection and community that permeates our workplace requires real change across all facets of what we do and who we are.
We must hire, support, develop, advance and retain diverse talent at all levels of the organization with a standard of inclusive excellence.
If you are excited by this opportunity and have a passion for our mission - whether you meet all or some of our criteria - we want to talk to you.
Please note all newly hired staff and faculty will need to be in compliance with Boston Universitys COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster Requirement within 30 days of date of hire. You must upload your vaccine documentation or request a medical or religious exemption (instructions).
