The Department of English seeks to fill a full-time, nontenure-track position in teaching creative non-fiction and journalism writing workshops. Initial two-year contract with a renewable appointment and eligibility for a rolling contract in the sixth year after a review. Candidates should be established writers with strong records of publication, continuing active involvement in the profession, and proven excellence as undergraduate instructors. We are interested in candidates whose work focuses on environmental/climate issues, such as the social impacts of climate change in the US or globally and questions of environmental justice. Candidates should be prepared to teach creative non-fiction and journalism courses at the introductory as well as more advanced levels, including special topics related to environmental/climate issues, to direct creative senior theses, to serve as an academic advisor to undergraduates and on university and departmental committees, and to provide leadership for the Creative Writing Program by organizing readings and other events, and, at times, coordinating the program. Expected teaching load is 2 courses per semester.
This position is part of a new multi-year cluster hire program at Tufts University entitled Creating the Community of Tufts Scholars(CCTS). The first cluster focuses on the broad theme of climate. As part of the cluster, CCTS faculty will be able to take advantage of comprehensive faculty, professional, and community development resources as well as other forms of support.
Relevant MFA or PhD preferred, though BA degrees with substantial professional activity and teaching experience at the college level will also be considered.
Applicants should submit a letter of application, a CV, a writing sample (about 20 pages), a sample syllabus, and three letters of recommendation uploaded directly by the authors to Interfolio. All materials should be submitted through Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/134035
