Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Print Publications, the Editor will be responsible for the daily editorial, production, and distribution operations of Columbia Books on Architecture and the City (CBAC), the publishing imprint of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and will help manage the Avery Review.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Print Publications, the Editor will help edit and manage publication projects for CBAC:
This includes working closely with authors during all phases of project development, revision, conceptual design, and production.
Organizing image rights and performing copyright research; setting and maintaining schedules and budgets; and coordinating production logistics.
The incumbent will assist with the administrative operations of the office, including financial recordkeeping, submitting and tracking honoraria and invoices for processing.
Coordinate the editorial and production workflow of the Avery Review, which includes collating submissions to the journal, liaising with the journal???s contributing editors, editors at large, and authors; and managing post-production for each issue.
Responsible for publicity/communications around existing publications, including social media promotion, press and reviews, CBAC newsletters, outreach to booksellers, and book fairs.
Will perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor???s degree and/or equivalent related experience are required. Two ??? four years of related experience.
A successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of contemporary architecture and publishing practices, as well as interest and proficiency in working across a range of subject areas that intersect the disciplines of the built environment, including but not limited to political and social history, ecology and climate change, race, gender and class, and art and culture. The candidate will also have a proficient grasp of the Chicago Manual of Style.
Excellent writing and editing skills, project management experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups are required. So, too, is the ability to work collectively in a team environment.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; knowledge of current technology and application of web-based communication and digital publishing are desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
A master???s degree in an architectural field, preferably related to editing, criticism, or curatorial studies, is preferred.
