Job Summary:
Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is seeking a creative, driven, and skilled Multimedia Journalist to join the Athletics Department. This individual will be responsible for producing engaging multimedia content to enhance the visibility of MTSU Athletics across various platforms, including social media, web, television, and more. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports journalism, a strong background in storytelling, and the ability to create content that resonates with the university community and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce, write, shoot, and edit multimedia content (video, audio, and some written) covering MTSU Athletics events, student-athletes, coaches, and the broader athletic department.
• Create and curate engaging content for MTSU Athletics' social media platforms (X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, etc.), including live updates, behind-the-scenes coverage, and one-on-one interviews and postgame coverage.
• Collaborate with coaches, student-athletes, and other department staff to tell compelling stories that showcase the achievements and experiences of MTSU’s athletic teams.
• Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, and other stakeholders to produce feature stories, podcasts, and other compelling content.
• Ensure content is consistent with MTSU Athletics’ branding, tone, and messaging.
• Work with external media outlets to enhance the visibility of MTSU Athletics.
• Stay up to date with trends in sports journalism and multimedia production to keep MTSU Athletics at the forefront of digital content creation.
• Will be called on to write for the MTSU Athletics website on occasion.
• Attend all MTSU press conferences

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in multimedia journalism, sports reporting, or content creation (preferably within collegiate or professional sports).
• Strong writing, video production, and editing skills while also feeling comfortable on camera.
• Proficiency in multimedia software (Adobe Creative Suite or similar).
• Strong understanding of sports and MTSU Athletics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a collegiate athletic department.
• Graphic design skills for digital content creation.
