 The Associate Editor collaborates with the magazine team to provide creative ideas and content for the monthly Arkansas Living magazine, as well as works directly working with member co-ops on their portion of the publication. Oversees magazine&#8217;s website and social media. In this position, you will be given the opportunity to work alongside peers who are versatile, enthusiastic, and continuing to strive to push AECI and our mission forward. 
 
 
 
 Responsibilities 
 
 
 
 
 Manages and produces local co-op pages for monthly magazine; includes working closely with the member co-ops&#39; local page editors to develop content, including writing and taking photographs for the pages. Works with graphic designer to ensure content is produced and approved before deadlines. 
 Edits articles and features and assists with proofing, social media and magazine website updates. Also assists with special projects as needed. 
 Writes articles and features for the magazine, which will require travel to on-site interviews in many cases, with a major emphasis on accuracy. 
 Takes photographs and video to accompany articles, features. Stays abreast of and learns about new video apps for digital use to help update the magazine&#39;s website/social media/digital offerings. 
 Oversees freelance writers and photographers working on assignments. Fact-checks their work and offers guidance, making sure they meet deadlines and produce work that is acceptable for use. 
 Assists editor in developing editorial calendars, both monthly and annually. 
 Provides customer service to magazine readers and member co-op communicators. 
 Updates digital archives of magazine using the MerlinOne data access management system. 
 Assists with co-op communicator training and education, including developing presentations on writing skills and editorial planning. 
 Represents the magazine at industry events and conferences. 
 Serves as the managing editor, overseeing entire production process, in the absence of the editor. 
 The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position. 
 
 
 
 Minimum Qualifications 
 
 
 
 
 Bachelor&#8217;s degree in in journalism, English or public relations, plus 7 years related experience and/or training, including project management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
 Valid Driver&#8217;s License 
 Experience writing for and editing newspapers and/or magazine publications with significant circulation. 
 Strong writing and editing skills required. (AP style required). 
 
 Preferred Qualifications 
 
 Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

 Reporting to the Communications and Public Relations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the curation and production of print and digital publications. Through a combination of storytelling, scholar interviews, solicited articles, and the generation of original copy, the incumbent seeks to engage new audiences, raise the Institute&#8217;s profile, communicate the relevance of basic research to thought leaders and the general public, deepen engagement and connections within the IAS community, and attract financial support for the Institute&#8217;s mission. The incumbent is the editor of the biannual  Institute Letter  and works to ensure consistent editorial voice, messaging, and visual identity across platforms. 
 Position Duties and Responsibilities &#xa0; 
 Management of editorial and digital content (65%) 
 
 Coordinate production of recurring Institute publications, including  Annual Report ,  Faculty and Members  booklet,  Institute Letter  and other print and digital materials. 
 Develop and launch strategies to enhance publications and expand suite of communications tools. 
 Provide quality control of publications and other deliverables to ensure copy is accurate and consistent with the Institute brand. 
 Curate, organize, and distribute content (articles, videos, news briefs, archival material, exhibits, photography, and externally published material) across print and digital platforms, including the website, publications, e-communications, and social media. 
 Utilize content to support media outreach, fundraising efforts, leadership materials, relationship building, and events programming. 
 Oversee design, production, distribution, and costs of existing and new products and publications. 
 Draft and/or edit materials to support activities of the Development and Communications office. 
 Advance editorial and content vision and communicate clear strategy. 
 Oversee the work of summer interns. 
 
 Original content generation and research (15%) 
 
 Work with Faculty and scholars to develop articles, profiles, and multimedia content. 
 Contribute original, substantive reporting and writing about IAS research, scholars, and history. 
 Perform archival, biographical, and content-related research about IAS founders, Faculty, prominent Members, consulting the Institute&#8217;s archives and other sources as needed. 
 Ability to develop highly specialized knowledge of basic research and history of the Institute. 
 
 Content support and development of Institute website (10%) 
 
 Coordinate the development and quality of the Institute website and its messaging, including the editing and production of the homepage, Ideas section, and Community of Scholars profiles. 
 Develop research and image resources and departmental systems for content-related work, such as editorial processes, style and visual identity guides, and photography. 
 
 Supports the Communications and Public Relations Manager and all other duties as assigned (10%)

The writer will also work closely with the senior director of public relations, the H&#38;S public relations team, and the Stanford News Service. An educational background in the humanities, arts, or social sciences and/or extensive experience writing about the humanities, arts, and social sciences is critical to this position. Working with the Keeper of the Living Collections and the Editorial Committee, the Editor has primary responsibility for managing the people and the processes required to deliver a high-quality publication. The Editor manages all phases of print and digital production to ensure the timely and consistent publication and delivery of four (4) quarterly issues of  Arnoldia  per year. To accomplish this, the Editor develops and implements strategic planning and sets publication priorities.  The BAS Associate Editor for East Asia  creates bibliographic indexing records for  chapters and articles in Western-language edited volumes and journals that deal with the countries and civilizations of East Asia  (China, Japan, Korea) , and submits those records monthly to the BAS Editor for review and ingest.The position is for an average of 20 to 30 hours  per  week. &#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 Responsibilities &#xa0; 
 Reviews, selects, analyzes and indexes the chapters and articles in edited volumes and journals that deal with East Asia, in a wide range of academic disciplines (humanities and social sciences, but also such natural sciences as environmental studies, geology and medicine.) While English is the main language targeted, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian and Spanish records may be included. Where appropriate, work may include retrospective records to fill current gaps in BAS coverage. A preset list of journal titles to be covered will be provided, but continuous informed adjustments and prioritization are expected, at the discretion of the Associate Editor. Relevant bibliographic entries are to be made in accordance with established guidelines,  including  the determination of up to ten subjects  from an established hierarchical structure of controlled-vocabulary subjects ,  as well as  the assignment of uncontrolled, subject keywords whenever appropriate to enhance discovery.  Seeks out and  treats new edited volumes likely to contain articles appropriate for inclusion in the BAS. At least once a month, reviews and transmits  all  new entries to the Editor of the BAS. While the choice of the physical work site is flexible, access to the print and electronic resources of at least one major academic library  --  with the ability to borrow  further  library materials through interlibrary loan -- is required. Similarly, the ability to participate -- either virtually or in person -- in  periodic  BAS-related meetings is expected. &#xa0;

 Demonstrated wide-ranging academic subject knowledge/expertise about at least one East Asian country (China, Japan or K orea) , in either the humanities or the social sciences or across interdisciplinary academic approaches&#xa0;&#xa0; &#xa0; 
 Demonstrated familiarity with the basic principles and practices of  bibliographic  indexing of academic materials &#xa0; 
 Demonstrated ability to analyze the contents of each publication to be indexed, and to apply appropriate subject headings and relevant keywords &#xa0; 
 Demonstrated ability to follow guidelines, and work independently, efficiently and effectively, with great accuracy and attention to detail 
 Experience and familiarity with digital research tools a nd modern bibliographic research methodologies &#xa0; 
 Great professional, detail-oriented and interpersonal communication skills &#xa0; 
 Access to the online resources and in-print collections at one major academic library in the United States or Canada, with the ability to borrow library materials through interlibrary loan, and travel to additional libraries whenever necessary
