Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Communications, the Content Specialist will develop and complete stories, news releases and targeted marketing publications for internal and external audiences as well as electronic publications and web content development and maintenance. This position is responsible for initiating and developing stories to be published in various formats including print and web-based. The specialist will interview faculty, staff and students for stories, content research and final products. Examples include features of faculty research in action, student and alumni profiles, collateral, news releases, department announcements and other written material using subject matter experts.
The content specialist is part of the College of Engineering Dean's Office and will specifically promote department accomplishments and events by writing copy and curating content and also promote college-wide programs and initiatives. The specialist will write copy, curate content and follow the communications department's content workflow to ensure the efficiency and distribution of all news while ensuring relevant multimedia elements accompany all stories. The specialist will attend department events to gather content about the event and use for their websites and other publications, and they will assist in the development of content and layout of college newsletters.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN FOR APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BY 3/30/2023. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in writing for general audiences, using preferred media writing styles for print, web, social media outlets including strong promotional and editorial writing skills.
Experience creating imaginative and persuasive written copy.
Skills with high production of output exhibiting experience with working under deadlines.
Skills in conducting informational interviews with administrators, faculty, staff and students and in retrieving information from references sources (library, files, technical reports) to develop news articles.
Familiarity with the Associated Press style guide.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, social media tools, web content management systems.
Preferred:
Experience writing web content and familiarity with search engine optimization.
Knowledge of the various engineering fields represented in the college.
Knowledge of marketing techniques and promotional writing styles.
Knowledge of desktop publishing tools, Mailchimp and an eye for photo/video to illuminate new stories.
