Columbia Engineering seeks an enterprising part-time Writer, Assistant Editor (25 hours -benefits eligible) to assist in researching, reporting, and writing g stories around school priorities, helping to shape dynamic coverage with an emphasis on entrepreneurship.
This position will assist in administering, planning and producing a wide range of content. Ideal candidates will be able to understand our unique audiences and deliver exceptional and informative content to serve them.
Responsibilities
(40%) Responsible for packaging formatting , and performing some editing for print and online features content. Researches, conducts interviews, writes, and fact checks articles, contributes to newsletter production, wrangles visual assets, and assists in the approval process. Manages production of the biannual magazine???s Departments section across online, print, and emerging platforms. This can include writing, and managing copy, assets, production schedules and deadlines, as well as some wider stakeholder management and SEO duties.
(40%) Handle writing and fact checking tasks for online, print, and emerging platforms with extreme attention to detail. Deliver crisp, compelling content on deadline. Generate story ideas and creative angles for coverage. Produce and package content for print, online, and social media as needed; show good judgment on priorities, sourcing, headlines, and taste. Manage Departments content (coordinate with internal partners; edit for print and digital platforms; wrangle assets; help manage deadlines, etc). Help produce and package digital products (i.e. newsletters). Manage distribution of print products. Assist with administrative tasks for editorial, as needed. Contribute to an inclusive and equitable organizational culture.
- (20%) Additional duties handled as needed, such as writing captions, headlines and decks, posting editorial content to social media, repurposing editorial content for additional channels, and helping with administrative tasks
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Communications, or a related field and at least two years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

High degree of self-motivation and ability to thrive in a complex and dynamic deadline-driven environment. Demonstrated ability to organize time and manage multiple projects. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, social media platforms and APIs, Google Sheets, Microsoft Suite, and digital asset management systems.

Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of experience in journalism or related fields. Excellent communication, writing and proofreading skills Critical thinking and problem solving. Experience across social media, including creating toolkits.
Basic Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, familiarity with other design tools such as Canva preferred. Photography skills, including photo editing, preferred.
Bachelor???s degree in journalism or related field, masters preferred. Proficiency in English. Attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and multitask
