The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure track assistant/associate professor position. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate-level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development and other required activities for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, College, and University as needed.
This position will also serve as director of the Aggie Television Network. In collaboration with the director of the JOMC TV Studio, the director of Aggie Television Network will be responsible for overseeing the department's student-run newscast and additional broadcasts generated by student content production teams. The director will supervise coaching and training of student content teams in the development and production of a consistent block of programming to be aired weekly. The director will coordinate the network's efforts with other faculty assigned to teach production and professional skills courses. The director also will work with the advisor of The A&T Register to create an intersection between television network news operations and the student newspaper as part of a multimedia (collaborative) newsroom.
The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist who has a track record of reporting and/or producing news content on multiple platforms including television, radio, digital and social media and teaching multimedia and mass communication journalism courses at the university level. Courses in the multimedia and mass media production sequence include Introduction to Multimedia Journalism, Electronic News Writing, Reporting and Producing, Scriptwriting, Photojournalism, Communication Practicum, Introduction to Radio and Digital Production, Introduction to Video Production and Social Media. Additionally, the faculty member should demonstrate the ability to develop and supervise a student-produced newscast.

The department is housed within the University's College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, which enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 130 faculty members. More than 600 students are majors in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, which plans to establish a graduate program in the immediate future. The department is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). The mission of the Department is to prepare students with the high-quality education necessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers and to become productive citizens of their communities, the nation, and the world.

Requirements:
A Master's degree in journalism/communications or related discipline is required, in conjunction with a minimum of five years of professional newsroom experience, strong writing, creative storytelling, broadcast production abilities, and experience teaching broadcast production and multimedia journalism courses at the university level.
Preferred:
A Ph.D. is preferred with teaching experience at the university level, a strong research agenda and publications in refereed journals, creative activities, and at least five years of industry professional experiences.
