DESCRIPTION
The Moores Cancer Center is one of just 51 Centers in the United States to hold a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. As such, it ranks among the top centers in the nation conducting basic and clinical cancer research, providing advanced patient care and serving the community through outreach and education programs.
The Cancer Center's mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the care of patients with cancer. The Center supports one of the broadest ranges of cancer activities in the nation – from fundamental and translational cancer research in molecular genetics and advanced molecular therapeutics, and from population studies of cancer incidence to community education about cancer prevention and risk reduction.
Thanks to the generosity of Hanna and Mark Gleiberman, we recently celebrated the newly named Hanna and Mark Gleiberman Head and Neck Cancer Center. Their gift broadens the depth and impact of our cutting-edge head and neck cancer research program and supports innovative clinical care for our patients and their caregivers. The center funds clinical trials and pilot grants for researchers, among other projects. Our physician-scientists and researchers are involved in many exciting studies that will ultimately improve curative treatment as well as the quality of care for patients and their families.
The Research Grant Writer will focus on supporting grant writing for faculty in the Mark Gleiberman Head and Neck Cancer Center and Moores Cancer Center. The Research Grant Writer reports directly to the Director of Grant Development and Program Management and the Director of Hanna and Mark Gleiberman Head and Neck Cancer Center. The incumbent is responsible for supporting scientific writing for grant applications (to federal funding agencies, non-profit funding organizations, and foundations, as well as university intramural opportunities). They will participate in writing, editing, proof-reading, and formatting grant proposals for peer review.
The Research Grant Writer and Editor serves in a key role to provide advising, writing, and a full range of substantive editing on scientific research proposals, manuscripts, and other written products. The incumbent will contribute to the success of the research enterprise by helping faculty write successful new and continuation research grant applications to Federal and other funding agencies. These multi-million dollar proposals will include both domestic and international multi-disciplinary, multi-site projects. The incumbent will support the advancement of the Division's faculty by helping edit and prepare their scientific manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals; and support the Division's promotional efforts by copy-editing marketing and research recruitment communications prepared by the Division's marketing team.
