Write, edit, and fact-check publications, including digital and print advertising, magazines, viewbooks, web copy, and promotional materials, as needed to broaden the Universitys recruitment efforts of prospective students and retention of current students. Manage the movement of projects through the strategy process as well as between Marketing Communications teams; the NYU editorial style guide, making updates as needed; and the fact-checking process. Initiate and maintain relationships with key contacts across the University. Develop, coach, and supervise Copy Editor/Research. Contribute to the development and implementation of marketing and creative strategies for clients of the NYU Office of Marketing Communications by leveraging research-driven, analytical, and strategic thinking skills to positively impact organizational KPIs. Act as a strategic brand consultant and editor for people and units within NYU who want to better align their marketing and communications with the NYU brand in pursuit of reputational enhancement, increased engagement, and meeting recruitment and retention goals. Develop content strategy and content in partnership with NYU clients and other Marketing and Communications units and maintain editorial standards to ensure the NYU voice is portrayed accurately.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree advanced degree, or additional training or experience in publishing, advertising, or marketing.
Required Experience: 5+ years professional editing, copyediting, research, and writing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience: Experience writing, editing, and researching for publications and advertisements in a medium- to large-sized nonprofit organization, such as publishing or academics. Ability to generate and develop ideas and interview subjects for content strategy development, articles, and quotes. Ability to rewrite text to conform to clients expectations. Experience in developing content strategies and research methodologies to inform marketing strategies.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent command of grammar and spelling. Exemplary copyediting, proofreading, research, and time-management skills. Excellent writing and editing skills, and experience interviewing subjects and performing high-level research. Ability to prioritize work and effectively complete multiple assignments and adhere to deadlines. Strong organizational skills and detail orientation. Knowledge of MS Word in a Mac environment and various content management systems.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Experience using Microsoft Word in a Mac environment, various content management systems, and Google Workspace. Ability and desire to learn new applications and software, specifically Hive, Divvy, and WordPress.
